Alex Palmer ‘set for £5m Ipswich Town’ move, West Brom have replacement
West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer is set for a £5million move to Ipswich Town, according to Lewis Cox.
The Express and Star journalist reports (3 February) that the Englishman is set for a medical with the Premier League outfit.
It’s claimed that Albion are set to recall Josh Griffiths from his loan at Bristol Rovers and have faith in him, Joe Wildsmith or Ben Cisse between the sticks.
Palmer has started all 30 of Albion’s Championship matches so far this season, conceding 27 goals and keeping 11 clean sheets in the process.
Palmer move could derail West Brom season
The academy graduate has shone at The Hawthorns after securing his spot as their number one between the sticks.
However, the fee is too big to turn down for the West Midlands club given their issues with Profit and Sustainability regulations following the disastrous ownership of Guochuan Lai.
It will be a big ask for the replacement to step up and replace the impact that Palmer has had for the Black Country club this season but the options are all very talented and deserve a chance.

Tony Mowbray’s side currently occupy sixth place in the Championship, the final playoff spot but Middlesbrough could overhaul them with victory against Sunderland (3 February).
The move could hamper the Baggies’ playoff push if the player that replaces Palmer is not up to standard.
However, the long-term financial health of the West Midlands outfit is the most important thing and Palmer’s exit certainly helps to secure that.
