Premier League signing ‘possible at West Brom’ after player exit
West Brom could attempt to thrash out a Premier League loan move on Deadline Day, according to Lewis Cox.
Tony Mowbray is preparing for a hectic end to the winter transfer window with starting goalkeeper Alex Palmer heading to Premier League strugglers Ipswich Town in a £2million deal [Sky Sports].
However, a new midfielder may very well be on the agenda at The Hawthorns after Uros Racic ended his loan move prematurely, and Cox shared via X (3 February) his belief that a loan arrival could be on the cards.
The Express & Star journalist wrote: “I wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised by some business.
“Another loan from the Premier League or something more left-field feels possible but latter logistically tough.
“Maybe irons are in the fire pre-Racic. I think there is money left to spend.
West Brom will be active on Deadline Day
Once the winter transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Monday (3 February), the West Brom squad could look very different.
Although Palmer’s impending departure will shock the Albion faithful, a £2m fee is excellent business and allows Mowbray to reinvest the money back into his squad.
Furthermore, Championship promotion rivals Burnley are exploring a potential move for Karlan Grant [DOOD], who could be tempted to leave the Black Country outfit after being resigned to a limited role under the new boss.
Nevertheless, the Baggies are on course to secure a second consecutive playoff finish this term and will be eager to avenge the semi-final loss against Southampton last term under ex-boss Carlos Corberan.
With Josh Maja suffering from injury problems, concerns will grow regarding where the goals will come from in the West Midlands.
Meanwhile, Racic’s departure means another central midfielder will be required. The Serbian may not have kicked on at The Hawthorns as hoped, but Jayson Molumby and Alex Mowatt need sufficient competition heading into the business end of the season.
The business has sparked into life for West Brom, and there will undoubtedly be plenty of twists and turns before the deadline and potentially some new faces coming through the door.
In other West Brom news, the Baggies agree a record new bombshell transfer.
