Sky Sports share shock new Alex Palmer twist as West Brom agree transfer

West Brom have accepted a £2million bid from Ipswich Town for Alex Palmer on transfer deadline day, according to Sky Sports.

The news outlet reports (3 February) that the Baggies’ shot-stopper is set for his medical at the Premier League outfit in the coming hours.

It had been reported earlier by Express & Star journalist Lewis Cox on his personal X account (3 February) that The Albion would receive £5m for the transfer, in a new shock twist.

West Brom in transfer deadline shock with Alex Palmer transfer

Palmer’s move away from The Hawthorns will arguably come as a shock for many fans, considering he’s been one of their best players.

The 28-year-old is a Baggies academy product, making him an even more influential figure among the supporters.

While the Englishman has spent time away on loan for several seasons, he has been the first-choice shot-stopper for The Albion in recent years.

In the previous campaign, the Englishman started in every Championship fixture for the West Midlands outfit and has done the same this time around.

Carlos Corberan counted on Palmer at West Brom as he looked to win promotion to the Premier League, and Tony Mowbray had been relying on him as well.

The Baggies are in the race for a play-offs spot as they sit sixth in the table currently, making Palmer’s departure mid-season baffling.

Josh Griffiths is set to be recalled from his loan spell from Bristol Rovers, with Joe Wildsmit and Ted Cann already at Mowbray’s disposal.

The 28-year-old will unarguably be a big miss at The Hawthorns, and it remains to be seen who can succeed him in between the sticks.

In other West Brom news, three transfers are being lined up for deadline day.
