West Brom fans delirious over ‘cheat code’ deal for ‘Championship Haaland’
West Brom supporters have been sent into pandemonium on social media over the capture of Adam Armstrong on Deadline Day.
In one of the latest deals to be completed before the winter transfer window slammed shut, Albion got their hands on Armstrong on loan from Southampton, a proven Championship striker who flourished under Tony Mowbray while at Blackburn Rovers.
The 27-year-old’s switch until the end of the season was cut so finely that the Baggies were unable to formally announce it until the following day (4 February).
Armstrong joins Tammer Bany and Will Lankshear as further attacking recruits made by Andrew Nestor, Mowbray and the hierarchy at The Hawthorns, in what now looks a dynamic forward line.
West Brom fans smitten by ‘statement of intent’ with Armstrong
West Brom have certainly shown no mercy in their attacking spree late in the winter window.
While fans are somewhat deflated by the departure of long-serving goalkeeper Alex Palmer to the Premier League and Ipswich Town, nabbing a prolific Championship performer in Armstrong does more than just soften the blow.
Mowbray is now essentially spoilt for choice up front even despite contending with injuries – and with Armstrong having bagged 65 goals across his last three full seasons in the second tier, supporters have high hopes for the “Haaland of the Championship”.
He has also been branded a “cheat code” who shows a “massive statement of intent” from the Albion board as fans rush to X to laud his arrival.

Many fans of rival clubs have also shown their envy at Armstrong’s late showing at The Hawthorns, with several Championship sides prioritising striker recruits on Deadline Day.
Emmanuel Dennis signed for Blackburn while Middlesbrough secured Kelechi Iheanacho, but the Baggies may just have trumped the lot.
In other West Brom news, one winter signing will multiply his wage by a stunning 19 times after his Hawthorns arrival.
