Don Goodman: 'I would never, ever do' what West Brom fans did at The Hawthorns

West Brom News Speaking to Don Goodman

West Brom News is delighted to have Don Goodman joining its team of Albion experts at the start of 2024. Goodman played for the Baggies between 1987 and 1991, scoring 60 goals in 140 league appearances to make him one of the most prolific strikers in Hawthorns history. Goodman also played for Bradford, Sunderland, Wolves, Motherwell and Walsall in his career and since hanging up his boots, he's been working in the media with Sky Sports. Now, Don has agreed to join West Brom News and we're absolutely thrilled to share his expertise on the Baggies every week.

Don Goodman understands the frustration from West Brom supporters after many hit out at some of their own for flooding the exits prior to the full-time whistle in the 5-1 thrashing of Portsmouth.

Tony Mowbray's home tenure at West Brom got off to an excellent start with a resounding win over Portsmouth, but what happened at the end of that caused plenty of frustration and many accusations.

Many fans were seen heading for an early exit, leading other supporters to criticise their support and Goodman said that he understands that frustration when speaking to West Brom News.

"Look, I don't like it, but what can you do? People are people. I understand the fans who stay, being frustrated with fans that leave," said Goodman.

"Where it's worse is if your team are down and losing and fans stream out the ground, then that would be a different experience. But winning 5-1 and seeing fans leaving the ground, wouldn't affect you in the slightest.

"Look, people are different. I don't want to slam people that want to get up and leave. I would just say it would be something that I would never, ever do."

West Brom support shouldn't be questioned

While people will have their own opinion on those who stay to the end or don't, everyone at The Hawthorns wants the same thing for their club and the support is still magnificent.

Each and every week fans turn up in their thousands to watch a team that in all honesty, haven't delivered an awful lot back to supporters over the years although that could all change this season.

The Baggies remain on course to have a real shot at promotion and consistency will prove to be the key behind that success.

As it stands, West Brom occupy the final play-off spot, albeit on level points with Middlesbrough in seventh ahead of the home clash with Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.
