Karlan Grant transfer news at West Brom sparks anger
Karlan Grant staying at West Brom on Deadline Day has angered Derby County fans, according to the Derby Telegraph.
The Derbyshire outlet reported in its print edition [5 February, page 47] that Rams fans had hoped to see another attacking player come through the doors at Pride Park before Monday’s 11pm deadline, with Grant being heavily linked [Lewis Cox, 3 February].
Derby too had been keen to push the button on a move for Grant, with the Albion forward one of several players they inquired about, but the Baggies’ Championship rivals couldn’t get a deal over the line.
West Brom will be glad to keep hold of Karlan Grant
The prospect of the Baggies losing Grant so late in the winter transfer window would have been hard to stomach, given the 27-year-old has been one of their most consistent performers so far this term – albeit he has struggled for starts of late.
Grant has operated in a variety of positions this campaign, often starting out on the left flank, in a front two with Josh Maja, and more recently as a lone striker since Albion’s top scorer picked up an injury.

However, Tony Mowbray has left Grant on the bench for the Baggies since starting him in his first game in charge, instead utilising Grady Diangana and skipper Jed Wallace in a makeshift strike partnership.
With Maja and Daryl Dike both on their way back from injury, Will Lankshear in on loan from Tottenham and Adam Armstrong loaned from Southampton after the deadline, Albion’s frontline has been bolstered.
Grant faces plenty of competition as he looks to re-establish his place in Mowbray’s starting XI, but Baggies fans will certainly be relieved that he’s still an option they can turn to for the rest of the season.
In other West Brom news, one new Albion signing is set to increase his wages 19-fold after arriving on transfer Deadline Day.
