Grady Diangana called out as West Brom problem issue mooted

Tony Mowbray “needs more” from Grady Diangana if West Brom are to beat Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, David Prutton has said.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Essential EFL podcast (6 February), Prutton argued that Diangana and other Albion attackers aren’t doing enough after Mowbray began his reign wiht two defeats in three.

Acknowledging that the arrival of Adam Armstrong on loan from Southampton could be a significant coup for the Baggies, Prutton also wondered how Mowbray would accomodate his new signing.

He said: “It’s a really tough proposition for Tony – I think he needs more from his attacking players, the likes of Grady Diangana.

“I think they’ve done great business with getting Adam Armstrong in, who obviously knows his way round scoring goals in the Championship, so there’s a lot to like about them.

“I’m very intruiged to see how they line up with Adam in the squad.”

Grady Diangana could be dropped after West Brom transfers

Although Diangana put in a flawless display in Albion’s 5-1 drubbing of Portsmouth in Mowbray’s first home game back in charge, that performance has proven to be an outlier for the Congolese this term.

Since the Baggies’ defeat to lowly Plymouth Argyle last time out though, they’ve been extremely busy on the transfer front, bringing in no less than three frontmen to accomodate for Josh Maja’s current injury.

Diangana and Jed Wallace have deputised as a makeshift front two in Mowbray’s last two matches with the exit-linked Karlan Grant left on the bench, but now there’s a plethora of strikers at his disposal.

Armstrong’s signing will no doubt grab the headlines having been sealed beyond the transfer deadline, but Randers forward Tammer Bany and Tottenham loanee Will Lankshear will also shake things up.

Armstrong, Bany and Lankshear will all be chomping at the bit to start against Wednesday, and with Mowbray keen to get back to winning ways, Diangana could well be the player who drops out.
