West Brom transfer news: Why Everton called off last-gasp Tom Fellows signing

Everton called off their last-gasp move for Tom Fellows from West Brom in the winter transfer window.

The Toffees were linked with a Deadline Day move for the 21-year-old, but he ended up staying at The Hawthorns.

Fellows is enjoying a fruitful campaign, leading the assists charts in the Championship, and it isn’t surprising to see Premier League teams being interested in him.

The attacker came off the bench and provided an assist as the Baggies beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 in a thrilling contest at home on Saturday (8 February).

Everton finances behind Fellows deal fail with West Brom

Everton decided against signing Fellows in the previous window to save money for the summer, according to the Sun on Sunday.

The news outlet reports in its print edition (9 February, page 55) that The Friedkin Group called off the 21-year-old’s pursuit as they look to spend next summer.

It will be interesting to see whether the Blues will pursue the midfielder in the coming months.

The midfielder has scored two goals and provided 11 assists in 31 league appearances for West Brom this season.

Fellows could leave The Hawthorns in summer

It would be a big blow for the Baggies if Fellows were to leave them as they try to build something under Tony Mowbray.

The England Under-21 international has made his way through the youth ranks at The Albion and has become a fan favourite over the years.

While the 21-year-old’s departure will sting, Bilkul Football could potentially look to cash in on him as they did with Alex Palmer.

The goalkeeper had been a key player for the West Midlands club in the current campaign but has joined Ipswich Town mid-season.

With the win over the Owls, where Darnell Furlong consistently struggled defensively, the Black Country outfit have cemented their place in the play-off spots for now.

Mowbray will have a chance to further solidify his team’s position on Wednesday (12 February) when they face Blackburn Rovers at The Hawthorns in the Championship.
