West Brom sanction deal for left-back to leave The Hawthorns on loan
West Brom have sanctioned a deal for left-back Josh Shaw to leave The Hawthorns on loan.
The Baggies are fifth in the Championship with a three-point margin to seventh place Middlesborough, although the Teesiders have a game-in-hand.
Callum Styles has impressed as a makeshift left-back this campaign and Gianluca Frabotta has proved a capable backup in his six Championship appearances.
As a result, the Black Country club have allowed the young defender to depart on a temporary basis to gain senior experience.
West Brom allow Shaw to leave on loan
The Baggies have allowed left-back Josh Shaw to leave on loan to National League North outfit Marine.
The Mariners confirmed the one-month deal in a post on X (11 February) and he is eligible to feature in their clash with Rushall Olympic this evening.
The 21-year-old has made just one senior appearance for Albion during the 4-1 win over Aldershot Town in the FA Cup in January 2024 so a spell away from the West Midlands makes sense.
Shaw can have a big future at West Brom
The Hawthorns outfit have shown that they are willing to promote youth players into the first-team fold if they are good enough.
The likes of Tom Fellows and Alex Palmer have emerged from the academy to become key senior players in recent seasons before the latter was sold to Ipswich on deadline day in a £5 million deal.
Given the club’s ongoing issues with Profit and Sustainability regulations after the disastrous ownership of Guochuan Lai, it would not be a surprise to see more youth talents get a shot in Tony Mowbray’s squad in the near future to inflate their value or become regular starters.

The Marine loanee has started eight of his nine Premier League Two appearances this season and now has the chance to experience regular senior football on Merseyside, a familiar surrounding considering he spent his early years in Everton’s youth ranks.
Albion supporters will be following Shaw’s loan spell with a keen eye, wondering whether he can become the next Albion homegrown star.
The player will be hoping that he can impress in his stint in non-league and potentially force his way into Mowbray’s plans in the summer.
