Chris Foy speaks out on ‘interesting’ incident from West Brom win v Sheffield Wednesday
West Brom were at the heart of controversy in their victory over Sheffield Wednesday, keeping them in contention for promotion to the Premier League.
Tony Mowbray’s return has marked a new era at The Hawthorns and with the Baggies sitting fifth in the Championship, things could be moving in the right direction towards a Premier League return.
A 2-1 victory against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday (8 February) saw the Albion get back to winning ways, with drama from the first whistle to after the last.
Chris Foy reacts to disallowed Sheffield Wednesday goal
Although the Baggies took the lead in the 74th minute through Adam Armstrong, it was Sheffield Wednesday who had the ball in the back of the net first, scoring after 52 minutes.
However, the goal was disallowed after Josh Windass was judged offside, keeping the scores level.
This served to be the boost that the Baggies needed as they grabbed three points in added time through Jayson Molumby after Armstrong’s opener was cancelled out.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Chris Foy reacted to the controversy, saying: “This is an interesting one as the officials have to judge whether Sheffield Wednesday’s number 11, who is in an offside position, makes an obvious action which impacts the goalkeeper’s ability to make a save.
“When the initial shot is taken, number 11 makes a run across the middle of the goal, clearly across the path of the ball and relatively close to the goalkeeper. This has an impact on the ‘keeper’s ability to make a save.
“It’s pleasing to see strong communication from the referee and his assistant to reach the right outcome and disallow the goal.”

Three points for West Brom
The disallowed goal potentially served as a bit of a warning for West Brom to up their game otherwise their opponents certainly could and would take advantage and score again.
Albion answered perfectly with Armstrong’s goal and even though the Owls equalised in the 93rd minute, the Baggies hit back and won the game through Molumby in the 96th minute, creating wild scenes at The Hawthorns.
Getting another three points on the board means the Baggies are moving up the table which is exactly what Mowbray will have wanted to see.
However, the Albion have been inconsistent recently, so there is still plenty of work to be done and the Baggies need to show their ability to perform to a high level regularly.
A visit from sixth-placed Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday (12 February) gives Mowbray’s side a perfect chance to prove themselves as a defeat would see their opponents jump above them in the table.
It is all about winning by any means necessary now, as we approach the business end of the season.
