Mowbray gets it wrong with Lankshear – West Brom confirmed XI v Blackburn

Tony Mowbray seems to have got it wrong with Will Lankshear as West Brom gear up to face Blackburn in the Championship.

The Baggies have won two out of their last five Championship games, including a dramatic, last-gasp win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday (8 February).

A couple of new additions were made in the winter transfer window to try and bolster the West Brom ranks and improve their chances of finishing in the top six, with the win over the Owls hopefully sparking some momentum to kick on.

There’s no doubt that Mowbray will want to add another three points to his team’s Championship tally but he might have just made that more difficult by not starting Lankshear.

Tony Mowbray makes Will Lankshear mistake

The young striker was brought in from Tottenham on a loan deal until the end of the season in order for him to earn some proper experience.

He was given the odd outing here and there by Ange Postecoglou due to the severe injury crisis they’ve undergone this season but a move to The Hawthorns was likely the best move for all the involved parties.

West Brom announced their starting XI to face Blackburn via their X account (12 February) and Mowbray has made two changes to his side after their 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday last time out.

Tom Fellows and Mason Holgate have come in for Grady Diangana and the suspended Kyle Bartley with the former Birmingham boss keeping the team fairly similar to their game against Wednesday.

With Lankshear being benched, it feels like Mowbray could be missing a trick and perhaps even end up costing West Brom the win.

West Brom to leave The Hawthorns with all three points

While the Baggies’ form may have been a bit topsy-turvy over the last few weeks, the fact that Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace is talking to Derby about potentially making a move means that Rovers are in a bit of an usual spot themselves for the clash at The Hawthorns.

Only two points separate the playoff hopefuls and a win tonight could help further cement both teams’ chances of securing a top-six spot at the end of the Championship season.

West Brom were ever so close to the final last season but ended up missing out after losing to Southampton in the semi-finals.

On paper, it feels like the Baggies are in a far better place than their counterparts at the moment and unless the Lankshear decision does come back to bite them, it feels hard to not see a West Brom win.
