Raphael Wicky in running for another Championship job after West Brom collapse

Raphael Wicky is said to be a candidate to take over at another Championship club after a deal with West Brom fell through, according to Alan Nixon.

West Brom are enjoying life under Tony Mowbray ever since his return to The Hawthorns but things nearly panned out very differently.

Wicky was known to be in advanced talks with the Baggies following the departure of Carlos Corberan to Valencia, and just as the deal appeared to be done, it took a turn.

Talks immediately broke down between West Brom and Wicky after it was revealed that the Swiss manager was unable to get the backroom staff he desired.

However, a move to England may not be off the cards yet with another Championship club said to be interested in his services.

Raphael Wicky set for a Championship role?

Blackburn Rovers are said to be interested in appointing Wicky, according to Nixon via his Patreon (12 February).

John Eustace looks set to depart Rovers in favour of a shock return to Derby County and Blackburn will be keen on finding a swift resolution with their promotion hope still intact.

Rovers sit just two points behind the Baggies having played the same number of games, with the two among several other clubs fighting for the two remaining play-off spots with the top four seemingly already set in stone.

Several other candidates are believed to be under consideration with an appointment needed urgently if Eustace is to depart Ewood Park.

West Brom enjoying Mowbray-Ball

While many will have seen it as a disappointment when the deal for Wicky fell through, the appointment of Mowbray has not only softened that blow but perhaps exceeded expectations at The Hawthorns.

Mowbray has been a crucial figure in the recent run of form that has seen West Brom maintain their promotion aspirations and look likely to remain inside the top six come the end of the season.

If that form can continue, the Baggies can prepare for a play-off campaign in which they will stand a fair chance of achieving promotion and may have to defeat Wicky in the process if a deal with Blackburn materialises.

Should the Swiss manager get the job, it will provide an interesting insight into what he may or may not have done if West Brom were able to conclude the deal.
