Millwall v West Brom preview: Team news, lineups, prediction, where to watch

Tony Mowbray’s West Brom side return to action in the Championship this Saturday when they travel to face Millwall at The Den.

The Baggies head to Bermondsey following a 2-0 home loss to Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday (12 February), in which Mowbray’s team were well off the pace as the visitors scored two quick goals in the second half.

Blackburn’s victory at The Hawthorns saw them leapfrog Albion in the table, displacing West Brom into fifth and leaving Mowbray‘s side just two points ahead of Bristol City in the last play-off place.

Millwall v West Brom Preview

Mowbray has been unable to put together a consistent run of results since his return to The Hawthorns, overseeing a 5-1 win over Portsmouth and last-ditch victory over Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.

However, that 2-1 win over Wednesday on home soil has been bookended by two disappointing defeats and performances to match, losing by the same scoreline to Plymouth before their 2-0 loss to Blackburn.

Millwall, meanwhile, had looked to be in better and more consistent form in recent weeks, putting four straight wins together against Luton, Portsmouth, QPR and Leeds – the latter coming in the FA Cup.

However, that form came crashing back down in midweek as Plymouth thumped the Lions 5-1, claiming yet another scalp after beating both West Brom and Liverpool (in the FA Cup) in successive weeks.

Team News for Millwall v West Brom

Looking to bounce back from his side’s dismal defeat to managerless Blackburn at The Hawthorns, Mowbray is expected to make three changes as Albion line up at The Den on Saturday.

Recalled loanee Josh Griffiths could displace Joe Wildsmith between the sticks, and Isaac Price and Tom Fellows may also drop out for Grady Diangana and Spurs loanee Will Lankshear in the attacking quartet.

Kyle Bartley will serve the second of a three-match ban following his red card against Sheffield Wednesday, but new signing Tammer Bany and Josh Maja are the only other Baggies players sidelined.

Millwall, meanwhile, have plenty of their own injury concerns, with Aidomo Emakhu, Calum Scanlon, Dan McNamara, Josh Coburn and Ryan Leonard all expected to miss Saturday’s clash in Bermondsey.

Millwall: Roberts, Crama, Tanganga, Cooper, Bryan, Mitchell, De Norre, Watmore, Azeez, Neghli, Ivanovic

Where to watch Millwall v West Brom

The match at The Den kicks off at 3pm GMT on Saturday (15 February) and won’t be available to watch on terrestrial TV in the UK, but Albion fans can still tune in with a WBA TV or WBA Radio subscription.

Alternatively, supporters can also listen to commentary on BBC Radio WM.

Prediction – Millwall 1-2 West Brom

With Millwall having taken a tanking on the South West coast in midweek, Alex Neil will be looking for a response from his side – but so too will Mowbray after Albion’s disappointing result on Wednesday.

The Baggies’ only defeat on the road since Mowbray’s return to The Hawthorns also came at the hands of Plymouth, but there’s no evidence that his side could be on the end of a 5-1 hammering this season.

As a result, and if the added firepower of Diangana and Lankshear brought into the frontline at The Den, Albion are unlikely to be as limited in front of goal as they showed against Blackburn in midweek.

Millwall’s home record hasn’t been up to its usual standards of late, and that will give Mowbray and his team all the confidence they need to come away from the capital with a 2-1 win and all three points.
