West Brom final Championship position predicted by supercomputer
West Brom have had their final Championship position predicted after they beat Oxford United 2-0 on Saturday.
The Baggies put in an impressive performance against the newly-promoted side with Alex Mowatt and John Swift netting the goals that set the two teams apart.
Tony Mowbray’s men are well positioned in the race for promotion to the Premier League, despite having the joint-most draws in the Championship this term.
Of course, the fact they’re in the playoff places is an achievement in itself with that being the Baggies’ main goal before the campaign kicked off.
And now, after they earned themselves three points at The Hawthorns on 22 February, a new prediction from the Opta Analyst supercomputer has been made regarding their final position in the Championship.

West Brom to finish in Championship playoff places
As the season has gone on, Mowbray’s men have suffered their fair share of injuries, with something of a defensive crisis occurring back when Carlos Corberan was the man at the helm.
The Baggies have 12 games left in their Championship season to ensure they end up in the top six and if the Opta Analyst is to be believed, they should do just that.
Team | Position | Points |
Leeds United | 1st | 72 |
Sheffield United | 2nd | 70 |
Burnely | 3rd | 68 |
Sunderland | 4th | 62 |
West Brom | 5th | 51 |
Blackburn Rovers | 6th | 51 |
West Brom are predicted to finish fifth in the table and have a 51.06 per cent chance of ending the season by getting promoted from the playoffs.
Just below them in sixth place are Coventry, which means that Blackburn are predicted to be the ones that just miss out.

West Brom well positioned for Premier League return
Last season, Baggies fans were stripped of their chances of making it to the playoff final after getting beaten by Southampton in the playoff semi-finals.
The Saints went on to beat Leeds in the final and while they may have made their way back into the top flight, with the way things are headed, they’re coming straight back down.
So, with redemption the main goal within the mind of the Black Country club, it seems that Mowbray will deliver on that goal and perhaps even take them all the way to Wembley.
Indeed, they still have a couple of first-team players who are sidelined due to injury, but with the form that winter arrival Isaac Price has shown since making the switch, West Brom seem to be a force to be reckoned with again.
Of course, only time will tell what the future holds, but if things carry on as they are, it’s hard to see how the Baggies won’t find themselves playing at Wembley by the time that May comes around.
