West Brom promotion impact laid bare after ‘Huge’ ownership developments

West Brom are in the mix to achieve a top-six finish and earn themselves a place in the Championship play-offs come the end of the season.

The Baggies have endured a rollercoaster of a season this time out, with several good results matched by several poor ones that have even seen calls for Tony Mowbray to be sacked.

However, despite that, the Baggies are still in the hunt to finish inside the top six and potentially reap the reward that promotion back to the Premier League can offer.

With plenty of commercial opportunities and access to broadcasting finances, West Brom would have their books boosted significantly by promotion, though a failure to achieve that could have an impact.

West Brom learn the impact of play-off failure

If West Brom are to maintain their place inside the Championship top six, performances like in the win against Oxford will have to be replicated far more often.

However, if they fail to do that, it’s unlikely that they would hampered massively by the financial side of the game, according to Dan Plumley.

Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, the football finance expert said: “It’s a tricky one in terms of that league, isn’t it, because it is super tight, and if you look at West Brom’s financial situation, it’s not the end of the world missing out on the playoffs this season.

“We’ve got to take into account the new ownership structure, which was huge for the club in terms of, you know, what that meant moving forward financially.

“They they haven’t got parachute payments anymore, we know that as well, so they’ve had that money that’s that’s gone now since they’ve been relegated from the Premier League.

“So it, it doesn’t mean a drastic hit.”

Premier League football remains an opportunity for West Brom

First and foremost, West Brom need to ensure they find consistency in their results and performances to ensure that they don’t drop out of contention.

If a top-six finish is achieved, the Baggies have just as good of a chance as anyone to go on and seal promotion.

Even at the best of times, the playoffs can be a complete lottery and everything from the season largely goes out the window, with promotion only won based on the 270 minutes of football that follows.

With 12 games remaining, West Brom need to start building momentum ahead of the final run-in.
