West Brom hero Matheus Pereira wrapped up in new transfer drama
West Brom hero Matheus Pereira is involved in transfer drama in his homeland of Brazil.
The 28-year-old once lit up The Hawthorns, notching 20 goals and 26 assists for the Baggies, including 17 contributions in the Premier League.
He moved to Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal in 2021 but is now plying his trade in his home country with Cruziero.
However, the former Albion ace has been subject to a complicated saga, according to a new report.

West Brom icon Pereira involved in transfer controversy
A report from Vene Casagrance (26 February), via his personal X account, claimed that the former Baggies ace was offered to Flamengo.
Cruziero bosses insisted on taking a player in return, such as Luiz Araújo, who’s representatives they had already held positive talks with.
However, the deal including Araújo was swiftly shut down by the Rio-based club as they were not willing to let him leave.
Pereira has struggled since leaving West Brom
The former Hawthorns ace probably wishes he stayed in the Midlands at this point as he has constantly moved since his departure.
He was loaned to Al-Wahda for the 2022/23 season and then Cruziero for the 2023/24 campaign before securing a permanent move there for a fee of £4.2 million.
Move | Season | Fee/Loan (rounded) |
Cruziero | 24/25 | £4.2 million |
Cruziero | 23/24 | Loan |
Al-Wahda | 22/23 | Loan |
Al-Hilal | 21/22 | £15 million |
West Brom | 20/21 | £7 million |
That is a far cry from the £15 million fee that the Baggies received for the Brazilian star when they sold him and indicates how his career has gone since.
He has struggled since returning to his homeland permanently, with just one assist in seven matches in the Campeonato Mineiro, which is the state championship rather than the Serie A, which is the highest league in Brazil and played between May and December.
It is impossible to know how Matheus Pereira‘s career would have unfolded had he stayed with Albion but it is likely he could have earnt a better move considering his sensational form at the time.
