Don Goodman scoffs at West Brom incident in draw v Leeds United – ‘Desperation’
Don Goodman kept his allegiance to West Brom aside at one point as they held Leeds United to a 1-1 draw at Elland Road in the Championship on Saturday.
The game on 1 March got off to a quick start as John Swift missed a chance to put West Brom in front early on, only for Junior Firpo to punish him with a goal at the end other moments later.
Determined to bounce back, the Baggies quickly sprung an attack, with Darnell Furlong heading a deep cross back into the danger area.
The ball hit Manor Solomon’s head before seemingly striking Firpo on his hand, leading to appeals for a penalty from the Albion players, although the referee paid no heed.

Goodman, though, was having none of it as he dismissed the shouts for the penalty, stating West Brom were just being desperate after conceding early on in the game.
“It’s called desperation”, the West Brom icon said on Sky Sports Football (1 March, 12:41 pm).
However, the pundit was impressed by the Baggies’ overall reaction to the goal, claiming they were better than Daniel Farke’s side with a good chunk of the first half still left to play.

Tony Mowbray earns point at Elland Road
The disappointment did not last long for West Brom as Furlong went on to equalise six minutes before half-time, getting on the end of a John Swift free-kick to loop the baller over Illan Meslier and, thus, nicking his first goal of the season.
Team | Matches | Wins | Draws | Losses | Goal Difference | Points |
5. Coventry | 35 | 15 | 8 | 12 | 5 | 53 |
6. West Brom | 35 | 12 | 16 | 7 | 13 | 52 |
7. Blackburn | 35 | 15 | 7 | 13 | 5 | 52 |
While there was action on both ends of the pitch in the second half, neither side managed to grab a winner, meaning Tony Mowbray and Co left Elland Road with a hard-earned point.
West Brom have not had much luck travelling to West Yorkshire in recent years, losing three of their previous four visits there.
Therefore, Albion will be delighted to have claimed a point this time around.
