Joe Wildsmith baffles Sky Sports pundit with what he did in West Brom draw v Leeds
Clinton Morrison was left less than impressed by something he saw Joe Wildsmith do in the 1-1 draw between Leeds United and West Brom on Saturday.
The Championship clash at Elland Road ended with both sides sharing the spoils after what was a fairly end-to-end game.
Tony Mowbray’s man can, however, leave West Yorkshire with their heads held high as, with the form that Leeds have been in over the last couple of weeks, they did well to add a point to their Championship tally.
While the performances across the board from the team were impressive, there was one moment in particular from Wildsmith that left Morrison somewhat puzzled.

Wildsmith error called out for Junior Firpo goal
While Wildsmith may have had a decent game between the sticks for the Baggies overall, there was one particularly dodgy moment.
The ‘keeper is battling for the first-team spot in Mowbray’s team and while his distribution of the ball is impressive, he was left wrong-footed by Junior Firpo in the draw against Leeds at Elland Road.
This led to Morrison being somewhat baffled by the goalkeeper’s actions and left him questioning what he was trying to do.
“It’s brilliant play from Dan James, but I don’t know where Wildsmith is coming. Where are you coming? It’s a good header from Firpo,” he said live on Sky Sports News (1 March, 12:46pm).

West Brom should be proud of their performance v Leeds
It goes without saying that Leeds have been the best team in the second tier this season – the table does not lie.
Their wins against teams Sunderland and Sheffield United over the past fortnight are a testament to how well-tuned they are as a squad.
Farke has got his team playing to an extremely high level, so the fact that Mowbray’s men managed to match the performance of the league leaders should allow the Baggies to feel proud of themselves.
While they’d have no doubt preferred to have left Elland Road with all three points to their name, the draw in West Yorkshire keeps them on course to earn promotion to the Premier League.
Team | Position | Games Played | Points |
Coventry | 5th | 35 | 53 |
West Brom | 6th | 35 | 52 |
Blackburn Rovers | 7th | 35 | 52 |
Bristol City | 8th | 34 | 49 |
There’s still plenty of the campaign left to go, of course, and as with everything in football, things can change in the blink of an eye.
But as long as they can keep their performance levels up to this standard until the final game of the Championship season, it’s hard to see how the Black Country club won’t end up in the top six.
