West Brom promotion chances predicted by supercomputer after Leeds draw

West Brom have had an up-and-down campaign as of late but remain in the promotion conversation ahead of the final 11 games of the season.

West Brom battled it out at Elland Road to secure another point against one of the top four teams, with Darnell Furlong scoring the equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Leeds.

Ever since the appointment of Tony Mowbray, the Baggies have lacked consistency. Several impressive results have been brought down by the occasional disappointment, and they will need far more of the former if they are to go on and achieve a Premier League return.

Mowbray set for playoff contention

As things stand in the Championship, West Brom occupy sixth spot, having picked up 52 points from the 35 encounters so far, but have shown plenty of promise under Mowbray.

13 points separate the Baggies from Sunderland, who occupy fourth, while there are only three points separating West Brom from Watford in 10th, showcasing just how tight the race for the final two playoff places is.

However, according to the latest predictions via Opta Analyst, Mowbray’s side are expected to keep their place in the top six come the end of the campaign, with a sixth-place finish predicted.

The Baggies, unsurprisingly, have a zero per cent chance of achieving automatic promotion, but have a 50.5 per cent chance of achieving a top-six finish.

If the latter can be done, West Brom have every chance of making a return to the Premier League, though improvements will need to be made.

Josh Maja return will be huge for West Brom

West Brom have coped reasonably well without their top scorer, but his return will provide them with a huge boost when that day arrives.

Josh Maja’s ability to make something out of nothing is what the Baggies have been missing at times in the final third, and he could prove to be the difference towards the latter stages of the campaign.
