West Brom backed to agree permanent Armstrong deal – ‘Let’s get his signature’
Tony Mowbray may look at making Adam Armstrong’s West Brom stay permanent in the summer transfer window.
The striker was brought in during the dying embers of the winter window with the Baggies desperate to add some more firepower to their ranks after the injury to Josh Maja.
Since his arrival at The Hawthorns, the striker has taken like a duck to water and has impressed on more than one occasion when leading the Baggies’ line.
While the deal this season is only for six months, that doesn’t mean Mowbray won’t explore the option of signing him permanently in the near future.

Lee Hendrie thinks West Brom should sign Armstrong permanently
Armstrong has been proven to score a fair few goals in the second-tier and while things haven’t quite clicked for him in the Premier League just yet, he’s a more than suitable player to help the Baggies in their quest for promotion.
Indeed, the Black Country club do have the likes of Maja and Daryl Dike among their ranks already but with their unreliability, a permanent deal for Armstrong makes sense.
Lee Hendrie shares the same opinion with the Sky Sports pundit believing he’d be a “great” signing for the Baggies.
“I think so [when asked whether West Brom should consider signing Armstrong permanently],” he said while speaking to Football League World (4 March).
“He’s proved that he can score goals in the Championship, you look at his record with Blackburn and then obviously Southampton where he scored bundles of goals.
“I think it’s also about having the right fit for the club and West Brom have a really decent squad of players. They’ve had to cut back on who they bring in, I think it would all depend on what sort of fee.
“Most clubs [in the Championship] would certainly look to take Armstrong because when you’ve proved that you’re a goalscorer in the Championship, the top clubs do look around that and think ‘yes, let’s get his signature’.
“I think it would be a great purchase for West Brom if everything was right going forward, because he scores goals.”

Armstrong could help Mowbray seal promotion
It goes without saying that the Baggies’ main aim since the start of the term has been to earn promotion.
While West Brom got off to a valiant run under Carlos Corberan at the start of the season, their form dropped off somewhat with it only really starting to pick up again recently.
Position | Team | Points |
5th | Coventry | 53 |
6th | West Brom | 52 |
7th | Bristol City | 52 |
8th | Blackburn | 52 |
In their last outing, the Baggies managed to hold league leaders Leeds United to a 1-1 draw and in that game Armstrong was causing Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk plenty of problems, even though he didn’t manage to get his name on the scoresheet.
His pace on the ball alongside his keen eye for goal and ability to hold the ball up if and when needed are among the few things that make him as good of a player as he is.
So, if he’s likely to be left out of Southampton’s plans again next year, it seems to make sense for all the involved parties to sanction the transfer, especially if he helps West Brom earn their Premier League status once again.
