Mowbray axes midfielder – West Brom predicted XI v QPR

Tony Mowbray may look at making a change to his midfield as West Brom ready themselves to face QPR in the Championship this weekend.

The Baggies welcome the Rs to The Hawthorns on Saturday (8 March) after an impressive 1-1 draw away at Leeds United last time out.

While West Brom’s back four pretty much chooses itself due to injuries, there could be a change to the team further up the pitch.

Mowbray could drop Alex Mowatt v QPR

Since his return to The Hawthorns, Mowbray has made a fair few tweaks to both his players and the formations they line up in.

With Albion using one up front against Leeds and managing to put in an impressive performance, things are likely to stay that way for the foreseeable future.

In between the sticks will no doubt be Joe Wildsmith, the ‘keeper has been battling for the number one spot with Josh Griffiths with the former Derby man the one to have come out on top recently.

The back four will stay the same with Darnell Furlong at right back, Kyle Bartley and Torbjorn Heggem in centre-back and Callum Styles the man likely to be in at left-back.

The midfield is where we’re going to see our first and only change from Mowbray as he could axe Alex Mowatt from his starting XI with John Swift dropping into defensive midfield to cover the gap.

Coming in for Mowatt could be Tom Fellows, the attacker was left on the bench versus Leeds but as soon as he was brought on, his impact was instantly felt.

Isaac Price will be the one in attacking midfield as Swift will be dropped back with Mikey Johnston managing to keep his place on the wing.

And, last but not least, leading the attacking line will be Adam Armstrong.

While the on-loan ace didn’t have the best of games against the Whites last Saturday, he’s still the best number nine available to Mowbray at the moment.

West Brom need to keep up their run of good form for a playoff spot

While the arrival of Mowbray may have had some topsy-turvy moments along the way, the team finally seem to be getting used to his style of play.

Indeed, there have been plenty of changes to the way the Baggies have lined up this term which likely hasn’t helped matters all that much but if they perform as they did against Leeds for the rest of the season, they should easily end the campaign in the top six.

West Brom’s main goal at the start of the campaign was likely to earn a place in the playoffs in order to be handed another chance at going up to the Premier League.

Of course, any number of changes can be made against QPR but after the performance that the Black Country club put in on Saturday, it’s hard to see all that much being moved around.

Especially if they want to keep up this level of performance in their last 11 games of the season.
