West Brom news round-up: Permanent Armstrong deal mooted, Karlan Grant ‘to leave’
West Brom return to Championship action this Saturday, though there has been plenty of news emerging from The Hawthorns over the last couple of days.
In terms of happenings on the pitch, West Brom will be solely focused on achieving promotion, off the back of an impressive 1-1 draw away to Leeds United.
The Baggies remain the top six heading into the final 11 games of the campaign, though they will need to showcase their quality going forward given how tightly contested the playoff race is.
However, off the pitch, things have been just as busy, with West Brom News rounding up all the latest stories to have come out of The Hawthorns.

Supercomputer predicts West Brom promotion chances
Given the complexity of the current season, West Brom are certainly making a real good attempt at making it a successful one.
While a top two finish is all but off the cards, the chance of promotion via the playoffs remains as a real possibility for Tony Mowbray‘s side with the latest supercomputer predictions forecasting a sixth place finish for the Baggies with a 50.54 per cent chance of finishing inside the playoffs.
If West Brom are to achieve that, then they have every chance of winning promotion back to the Premier League, especially considering their record against the top clubs.
The Baggies are predicted to finish on 69 points, which would see them finish two points clear of Blackburn in seventh.
Prutton makes West Brom prediction after Leeds draw
To come away from Elland Road with a point is a showcase of just how much quality is in this West Brom team, though the main frustration may be that it isn’t on show nearly enough.
However, that didn’t stop David Prutton from anticipating a top six finish for Mowbray’s side with one particular area of their game highlighted as the reason why.
Prutton said: “Tony Mowbray has got pedigree with getting teams promoted. Against the current top four they are currently unbeaten, which given historically West Brom’s standing within the Premier League might sound like I’m giving them faint praise, but I’m not.
Leeds v West Brom | Goals | Shots | Possession |
Leeds | 1 | 15 | 53% |
West Brom | 1 | 7 | 47% |
“They were very much up for the battle at Elland Road, and they do have the ability in their players to finish off teams.
“I like that ability to be stubborn in games with that creative flourish that we all know that Tony knows and loves, I think absolutely they can finish in the play-offs.”

Karlan Grant could be headed for exit door this summer
Attacking concerns have been some of the more prevalent ones for West Brom this season, though Karlan Grant has certainly played his part.
However, given the lack of involvement since the appointment of Mowbray, they may look to offload Grant, at least that is the consensus from Carlton Palmer.
Palmer told Football League World: “Maybe Karlan doesn’t fit into his plans. His salary as well. He’s on a big salary, so they may be looking to move him on anyhow.
“If that is decided behind the scenes, then I can see why Tony Mowbray is not playing him.”

West Brom backed to seal permanent Armstrong agreement
Since arriving at The Hawthorns, Adam Armstrong has looked a level above most in the Championship, and West Brom may look to make his stay a permanent one, in a sentiment echoed by Lee Hendrie.
“I think so [when asked whether West Brom should consider signing Armstrong permanently],” Hendrie said while speaking to Football League World.
“He’s proved that he can score goals in the Championship, you look at his record with Blackburn and then obviously Southampton where he scored bundles of goals.
“I think it would be a great purchase for West Brom if everything was right going forward, because he scores goals.”
