Walker rages over ‘horrible, terrible’ West Brom incident v Burnley
Andy Walker was less than impressed as West Brom drew 1-1 against Burnley in the Championship on Tuesday.
The Baggies went into the game at Turf Moor in good spirits after a draw with Leeds United and then beating QPR 1-0 on Saturday (8 March).
West Brom put in yet another solid performance against Scott Parker’s men but there was one moment in particular from the game which left Walker somewhat baffled while he was co-commentating for Sky Sports.

Joe Wildmsith makes massive error v Burnley
The Baggies managed to open up the scoring against the Clarets and up until the point of conceding, they seemed to be on top.
However, after Jaidon Anthony received the ball on the edge of the box and hit a strike towards West Brom’s goal, Joe Wildsmith failed to catch the ball which kept it in play.
The ball then dropped to the feet of Zian Flemming who coolly slotted the ball into the back of the net, leaving Wildsmith red-faced.
Competition | Games | Goals conceded |
Championship | 6 | 5 |
FA Cup | 1 | 5 |
Carabao Cup | 1 | 2 |
Speaking live on Sky Sports + (11 March, 20:09pm), Walker gave his thoughts on Wildsmith’s mistake.
“It’s a goalkeeping error, credit to Flemming for taking advantage of a spillage but that’s a horrible goalkeeping error,” he said.
“It should be just a comfortable save, he gets a decent shot away but that shouldn’t be trouble for a goalkeeper of his quality.
“It’s a terrible error, he’s got two hands on it and he wants to take it on the deck and he’s just suddenly lost control of it.”

West Brom may need to drop Wildsmith v Hull
West Brom have had a fairly mixed season thus far with the Baggies performing out of their skin in some games with others leaving fans feeling a bit flat.
They’ve had to contend with a plethora of injuries this season and the fact Alex Palmer chose to exit The Hawthorns in the winter transfer window hasn’t helped matters much.
This has resulted in Wildsmith and Josh Griffiths battling it out for the number one spot with the former of the two coming out on top.
However, after Wildsmith’s recent performances haven’t been quite up to scratch, it could be time for Tony Mowbray to allow Griffiths the chance to prove his worth once again.
The ‘keeper was brought back from his loan deal early in order to give the Baggies enough cover in the net.
However, with Wildsmith having an error such as this one in his locker, the 23-year-old might be a better option for the Black Country club.
Especially if they want to fulfil their goal for the season and end up finishing in the top six to try and earn promotion to the Premier League.
