Tony Mowbray reveals all on Daryl Dike at West Brom after injury hell

West Brom forward Daryl Dike is yet to feature in a starting side under Tony Mowbray after his injury nightmares.

His appearance against Millwall last month marked his first outing in a year, following an achilles injury which was heartbreaking for the striker.

Following the Baggies’ 1-1 draw with Millwall, Dike made cameo appearances off the bench against Leeds and QPR earlier this month, before being an unused substitute at Burnley on Tuesday.

John Swift put Mowbray’s men in front against Burnley after just 20 minutes, but Zian Flemming bagged the equaliser just moments later, as the Clarets looked to continue their automatic promotion push.

Mowbray has subsequently addressed Dike’s game time, as they approach the business end of the season at The Hawthorns.

Mowbray addresses Dike game time at West Brom

Dike proved himself as an asset for West Brom during the 2022/23 season, where he notched seven goals in 23 appearances, but since then his Baggies career has been plagued by injury.

It remains to be seen whether the USA international will feature in a Mowbray starting 11 this term.

Speaking to The Express and Star, Mowbray said: “We have to keep trying to pick a team not overly concerning ourselves with giving Daryl (Dike) enough game time.”

While the USA international will be keen to get as many minutes under his belt as possible, the Baggies must prioritise their current push for the play-offs, as alluded to by their boss.

West Brom must win against Hull on Saturday

The Baggies have been impressive lately, and have gone unbeaten in the Championship since their 2-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on 12 February.

However, they have now drawn three of their last five games in the second tier, albeit they would have been delighted to avoid defeat against both Leeds and Burnley in recent weeks.

Mowbray’s men are just two points above seventh place Bristol City, and will not want to drop out of the play-off places ahead of some crucial fixtures.

Therefore, it is vital that they pick up all three points when they welcome relegation threatened Hull to The Hawthorns on Saturday.

Dike will play a part between now and May, but only when the time is right.
