Exclusive: FA to charge West Brom after shock scenes v Burnley

Gavin Ward lost all control at the full-time whistle as carnage broke out after West Brom held Burnley to a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor on Monday.

CJ Egan-Riley was sent off for a kick on Will Lankshear off the ball, leading to a brawl of players and staff on the pitch, with Scott Parker also seeing red.

John Swift opened the scoring at Turf Moor with a sensational, yet cheeky freekick, only for Joe Wildsmith to hand Zian Flemming the easiest goal of his career minutes later.

West Brom and Burnley set for shock FA charge

Keith Hackett insists that the scenes following the full-blooded draw were unacceptable, and will result in both clubs being charged by the FA.

The ex-FIFA referee and PGMOL chief admitted that both Burnley and West Brom failed to control their players as scenes got ugly at Turf Moor.

“It is totally unacceptable behaviour,” Hackett exclusively told West Brom News.

“This will result in both clubs being charged with failing to control their players.”

West Brom pick up another sensational result

With Darnell Furlong suspended and Kyle Bartley missing out, many Baggies feared the worst going to Turf Moor, but it was another brilliant performance.

Tony Mowbray will have been delighted with the grit and fight shown by his squad, even if it does get them charged, as he intervened alongside Parker at the end.

The manager avoided punishment after leaving the field, with Parker having too much to say, meaning he will avoid fines or possible suspensions.

Lankshear put himself about after coming off the bench, troubling the best defensive pair in the Championship by a mile, with Egan-Riley clearly not happy about that.

After a nothing clash, he took the law into his hands and kicked out, being rightly punished.

West Brom will now move onto an easier run of fixtures, on paper, after drawing away from home at Leeds and Burnley within the past couple of weeks.

Hull City and Norwich, both struggling, are up next and six points from those will set the Baggies up nicely to take on Sunderland at The Hawthorns.
