Mason Holgate makes pundit rage after ‘crazy’ West Brom moment v Hull City

Mason Holgate has come under fire once again after a shaky performance against Hull City on Saturday.

The Baggies could add a point to their Championship tally on 15 March as Ruben Selles’ side were welcomed to The Hawthorns.

A first Albion strike from winter signing Isaac Price didn’t result in three points as Abu Kamara levelled the scoreline after some great work from Kasey Palmer.

The 21-year-old should have had a second just minutes later after Holgate left the B71 fuming after a moment of madness.

Holgate baffles Andy Johnson v Hull City

Everyone in the Black Country knows that the Everton loanee has a mistake in him, that’s just a fact.

The annoyance is that the 28-year-old does have some elements of quality which do shine through on occasion under Tony Mowbray.

The Jamaica international is useful with the ball at his feet and has a good turn of pace, but his constant lapses in concentration aren’t good enough.

This sort of error was once again on show at The Hawthorns against the Tigers as the away side came ever so close to stealing all three points.

It is safe to say that this didn’t go down well with former Baggies midfielder Johnson on WBATV (15 March) who slammed the loan defender.

He said: “Really we should have lost the game there. Crazy, crazy defending [from Holgate].”

Holgate nearly costs West Brom again

The former Sheffield United loanee has had some positive moments for the Albion but does always represent a nervous energy in B71.

As reliable as he can be at times, especially in a back three, he always appears to be just minutes away from a moment of madness.

Compare this to players like Torbjorn Heggem who have far less experience of the Championship and English football and it is very damming.

If it wasn’t for Joe Wildsmith against the Tigers, the away side could have secured all three points and it would have been down to the Jamaican.

Mowbray has a decision to make now about his future and whether he can rely on the loan man for the rest of the campaign.

Maybe more reliance on Ousmane Diakite could prove to be a wiser move in the coming weeks as the Baggies reach the business end of the campaign.
