Don Goodman ‘cannot believe’ what he has just seen about West Brom
Don Goodman has been left shocked by West Brom in the Championship this season.
The Baggies still sit sixth in the Championship despite winning just one of their last four games after their draw with 1-1 Hull last Saturday.
West Brom made a good account of themselves when they drew away from home with league leaders Leeds and automatic promotion hopefuls Burnley earlier this month.
However, Tony Mowbray’s side would have been disappointed that they failed to beat the likes of Hull and Millwall in recent weeks.

Goodman outlines West Brom’s away form as a major concern
The last time the Baggies earned a win on their travels came on 10 November, when they beat Hull 2-1 thanks to goals from Karlan Grant and Josh Maja.
Opponent | Result |
Leeds (A) | 1-1 D |
QPR (H) | 1-0 W |
Burnley (A) | 1-1 D |
Hull (H) | 1-1 D |
Speaking on the latest episode of the Sky Sports Essential EFL podcast [20 March], Goodman said: “It’s the away form that is really concerning.
“When I looked into the away form, I couldn’t actually believe no away win in their last 11 games, which is remarkable.
“No away win in 10 games against the top 14 teams in this league, as the table stands.
“I only focus on those away results because they’ve still got to play Coventry and Bristol City away, Cardiff away, and Norwich away.
“That’s four pretty difficult away games, so I don’t think they can afford to think that home form alone between now and the end of the season is going to be enough to get them over the line.”

West Brom must turn their away form around
The Baggies deserve plenty of credit for their home record this term, having lost just two Championship games at The Hawthorns.
However, as alluded to by Goodman, such a strong home record may not be enough to see a side who have won just four away games into the play-off spots.
If West Brom are seriously intent on landing a top-six spot for the second time in just two seasons, they must turn their away form around after the international break.
Mowbray’s men are level on points with seventh-place Bristol City, so there is every chance that they could drop out of the play-off spots if they do not begin to win matches on away soil.
Furthermore, the Baggies still have to go head-to-head with the Robins at Ashton Gate on 8 April for a clash which could prove pivotal to their top-six chances.
As it stands, the likes of fellow play-off hopefuls Coventry and relegation battlers Cardiff will both fancy their chances of beating West Brom when they host Mowbray’s side next month.
This has to change, quickly.
