Tony Mowbray names player who’s not up to West Brom standards in brutal admission

West Brom are pushing for a spot in the playoffs this season but Tony Mowbray isn’t sure everyone will be on the ride with him.

Although Mowbray did not have the smoothest of starts to life at The Hawthorns, the Baggies are now unbeaten in six games.

With 57 points on the board, West Brom are level with Bristol City who sit seventh in the Championship table, meaning there is still plenty of work to be done in the Black Country.

Mowbray calls out West Brom player

Upon a return from the international break, West Brom will have to be at their best levels until the end of the season if they are going to secure a top-six finish and a chance to push for promotion to the Premier League.

With that in mind, Mowbray will want standards high throughout the squad meaning there is no space for anyone who may be a passenger.

Gianluca Frabotta is clearly not a favourite of Mowbray as he has not been given any game time since the manager’s arrival.

Across the rest of the season, the 25-year-old has made just six Championship appearances and hasn’t played since the start of 2025.

Gianluca Frabotta has not got going with West Brom this season.

The boss has not held back in his analysis of Frabotta and why he is not getting game time though as he said, as per the Express and Star [20 March]: “Frabotta, I just can’t see how he’s up to speed and ready to play in our first team at this moment.”

The left-back is under contract at The Hawthorns until 2027 but has not been able to get himself as a considerable option in the first team this season.

Frabotta faces uncertain West Brom future

Even before Mowbray’s arrival at West Brom, Frabotta was not having the best of seasons at The Hawthorns. Under the new manager, it seems fairly clear that he is not part of the plans.

The 25-year-old did have to recover from injury earlier in the season which stagnated his campaign, but since his return to fitness, he has been unable to prove himself and get regular game time.

With that in mind, Mowbray is clearly not happy with Frabotta’s standards in training either, and whether his omission is through fitness or quality reasons, the boss has sent a clear message of improvement.

With things very tight at the top of the Championship table, it’s hard to call what the fate will be in the Black Country this term.

However, regardless of which league the Baggies find themselves in next season, Frabotta surely won’t be able to redeem himself enough and it would not be a surprise to see the two part ways in the summer window.
