West Brom promotion hopes predicted in ‘bonkers’ Championship admission
Tony Mowbray will hope to lead West Brom to a play-offs spot in the Championship but has been told to improve one aspect at The Hawthorns.
Carrow Road hosted the Albion on Saturday (29 March) in a fixture that could have a big say in determining who will make it into the top six.
Johannes Hoff Thorup’s team scored a late winner as Josh Sargent found the back of the net in stoppage time.
The Baggies faithful will aspire to win Premier League promotion under Mowbray, but whether the West Midlands outfit can pull off a miracle remains to be seen.

Mowbray needs to improve away form at West Brom
Mowbray will need to improve the Black Country outfit’s away record to potentially secure a play-offs spot, Darren Ambrose says.
The former Newcastle ace hopes the English manager can achieve a top-six finish in the Championship at the end of the campaign.
Championship table (2024/25) | Points |
5. Coventry | 59 |
6. West Brom | 57 |
7. Middlesbrough | 57 |
8. Bristol | 57 |
9. Watford | 53 |
10. Norwich | 52 |
Ambrose admits English football’s second division is “bonkers” as several teams have the opportunity to win promotion.
Speaking on talkSPORT (29 March, 14:56), the ex-midfielder said: “This division is bonkers. It’s been bonkers for a long, long time. I hope he can do it. I hope he can make the play-offs. Mowbray is one of the real good guys in the game, but they need to improve on that away form.”

Norwich loss big blow for Mowbray in Championship
Hull City’s draw at The Hawthorns ensured Mowbray’s team remained unbeaten in seven of their previous eight fixtures.
Norwich have put a dagger in the Baggies’ hopes of securing a place in the top six, but they still remain in the play-offs spot after results elsewhere.
Bristol couldn’t capitalise on the Albion’s misfortunes at Carrow Road, but that has left several teams vying for sixth place.
West Brom have made life difficult for themselves as now only five points separates them from 10th-place Norwich.
The Baggies had a habit of dropping points at crucial junctures under Carlos Corberan, and that trend has continued with a new manager.
Mowbray will be frustrated as The Albion had opportunities to score but weren’t able to make the most of them.
The result leaves great uncertainty in the Championship, with only seven more games to go, and The Hawthorns faithful will be hoping their team doesn’t slip up anymore in the coming weeks, with Sunderland travelling to the Black Country next.
