West Brom ‘ready to battle Frank Lampard’ to seal Rangers star transfer

West Brom already have one eye on the summer transfer window, despite everything still being up in the air at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies have a chance of returning to the Premier League via the play-offs, but some of their competitors have the same transfer targets in mind.

Whether or not West Brom achieve promotion, they are already looking at targets to bolster their squad.

Promotion would put West Brom in the driving seat, but as it stands they are behind a number of other clubs in the race to complete one signing.

West Brom in mix to sign Tom Lawrence from Rangers

Rangers star Tom Lawrence has endured a difficult period with injuries, but is now back to fitness and finding his best form at Ibrox.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and West Brom are in the mix for his signature.

The Daily Mail have now reported that while Lawrence could still extend his contract at Rangers, Wrexham, Coventry, and Burnley are ready to battle West Brom for his signature.

Coventry could have a key advantage in the hunt to sign Lawrence, with Frank Lampard in charge.

Lawrence has significant experience in the Championship, having spent a significant amount of time at Derby County.

The Welshman made 185 appearances for Derby, scoring 37 times, and 39 of these games came under Lampard during his managerial spell there.

Lampard is flying with Coventry, who are now one place above West Brom in the table, and given their previous connection, they will likely have the upper hand in negotiations to sign Lawrence as a result.

The former England international reached the play-off final with Derby and is now aiming to go one step further with Coventry this season.

Lawrence has been in terrific form for Rangers, netting the winning penalty against Fenerbahce in the Europa League, and would be a very useful asset at the top end of the Championship or the lower end of the Premier League.
