West Brom renovations begin at The Hawthorns as image shared of new work

West Brom entered a new era in February 2024 when Shilen Patel purchased the club from Guochuan Lai.

Under Patel’s ownership, the Baggies landed a Championship playoff spot last term and are vying to finish in the top-six for a second consecutive season.

But Tony Mowbray’s men could drop out of the playoffs, having managed just one win in their last five games.

A 1-0 defeat to Norwich last Saturday came as a major blow to West Brom, who face top-six rivals Sunderland this weekend.

The Baggies boast a strong record at The Hawthorns this term, having lost just two games on home soil in the Championship.

Meanwhile, Jon Round posted a photo on X of painting in the area outside the stadium, writing: “After the years of neglect under Mr Lai & Co, work is underway to spruce up the wonderful Hawthorns.”

West Brom must turn their form around

The Baggies’ defeat at Norwich last time out means that both seventh-place Middlesbrough and eighth-place Bristol City are level on points with Mowbray’s men.

West Brom are on poor form

Sunderland, who sit fourth in the Championship and were previously challenging for the automatic promotion spots, are certain to provide Albion with difficult opposition in the West Midlands on Saturday.

The Black Cats bounced back from a 3-0 defeat at Coventry on 15 March with a 1-0 win over Millwall last weekend.

If West Brom do not win this Saturday for the first time since their 1-0 victory over QPR on 8 March, then they could slip out of the playoffs, swapping places with either Middlesbrough or Bristol City.

Boro take on an out-of-form Blackburn outfit on Friday night, so they will fancy their chances of victory, while the Robins go toe-to-toe with fellow playoff chasers Watford in the West Country on Saturday.

Mowbray and Co need to turn their form around and fast, otherwise, they will not have an opportunity to compete for a place in next season’s Premier League.
