West Brom play-offs chances predicted by supercomputer after Sunderland loss

West Brom dropped out of the top six this afternoon as a result of their defeat at home to Sunderland.

With six games remaining, West Brom will need to put their 1-0 defeat to Sunderland behind them as quickly as possible, and find a way to achieve maximum points from the fixtures left.

Sunderland all but sealed a fourth-place finish with the win, leaving the Baggies fighting for one of the two remaining playoff places, with it now out of their hands.

Tony Mowbray needs to find a way to get his team back to their best if they are to retain their ambitions of returning to the Premier League.

Mowbray has a huge task on his hands now

Just eight points separate fifth from 13th in the Championship, and unless West Brom can find some consistency, they may end up finding themselves towards the lower end of that race.

Mowbray’s side were far from their best against Sunderland, with their promotion chances taking a hit as a result of the defeat.

The race for a top six finish is very tight this season.

According to the latest Opta supercomputer predictions, West Brom are now forecasted to finish eighth, just two points outside of the playoffs.

Just a 35.36 per cent chance remains for the Baggies to secure a top six finish, making them the least likely out of the teams currently occupying the top eight.

West Brom are running out of time

Consistency has been the biggest downfall for West Brom this season, and unless found, another campaign in the Championship beckons.

Just two playoff places are up for grabs at this stage, and with six or more teams ready to fight for them, West Brom need to start winning games.

Mowbray‘s side have won just one of their last six, with a lack of attacking threat perhaps the biggest shortcoming in that period, and it needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency.
