West Brom play-offs chances shift in supercomputer prediction after Boro win
Middlesbrough beat Blackburn Rovers 2-0 in the Championship on Friday, affecting West Brom in their chances to secure a play-offs spot.
Boro travelled to Ewood Park on 4 April, with Tommy Conway and Samuel Iling-Junior scoring to seal the victory for the visitors.
The Baggies lost 1-0 to Norwich City at Carrow Road in their most recent fixture, as Josh Sargent found the back of the net in stoppage time.
Tony Mowbray’s team will now face Sunderland at The Hawthorns on Saturday (5 April) to get back into the play-offs spots after dropping to seventh in the league table.

Championship play-offs chances reduced for West Brom after Middlesbrough win
Middlesbrough overtook the Baggies and Coventry in the Championship to fifth position, leaving the Black Country outfit outside the top six.
The Norwich City loss saw The Hawthorns faithful see their play-offs chances stand at 55.18 per cent, but those odds have now dropped to 49.16 per cent, according to Opta Analyst.
Predicted Championship table (2024/25) | Expected Points |
5. Coventry | 69.91 |
6. Middlesbrough | 68.36 |
7. West Brom | 68.24 |
8. Bristol City | 67.42 |
9. Sheffiedl Wednesday | 62.82 |
9. Norwich | 61.63 |
Mowbray’s team are expected to finish seventh in the league table, with Boro and the Sky Blues above them.
Sheffield United and Leeds United are the two teams predicted to win automatic promotion, with the West Midlands outfit having no chance of doing so.

Mowbray stint at The Hawthorns a failure if the Albion fail to make Championship play-offs
The Albion brought in Mowbray with big hopes due to his history with the Black Country outfit, but his recent failures have seen fans’ opinions shift quickly.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see Shilen Patel and Bilkul Football opting to make a change in the dugout if the Baggies were unable to make a play-offs spot.
While it’s still possible, The Hawthorns faithful will want their team to be perfect in the final few games of the season.
Mowbray needs to show West Brom that he’s capable of making progress on the work Carlos Corberan did during his time at the West Midlands club and make the right decisions with his starting lineups.
It’s true that the English manager has had to deal with a few fitness issues to some of his most important players at the Albion, but that’s still no excuse for some of the performances.
Patel and the management will need to take some of the blame, though, as they arguably made inadequate reinforcements to the squad and sold one of their best players, Alex Palmer.
The Hawthorns faithful will hope the supercomputer prediction doesn’t come true, but prospects don’t look promising for the Baggies as they take on Sunderland.
