West Brom v Sunderland: Embarrassing footage of fan clash emerges after defeat

West Brom fell to defeat at home to Sunderland, though it was an incident after the game that sparked the most emotion.

Sunderland came away from The Hawthorns with all three points, as West Brom fell to a 1-0 defeat against Tony Mowbray’s former side.

In terms of rivalry, there is little of it between the two sides, though if West Brom can find some consistency, there is every chance that the two could meet again in the playoffs.

Despite that lack of direct rivalry, there was still somewhat of an altercation between the two sets of supporters, though that may be doing the word “altercation” some disservice.

Sunderland fans ‘clash’ with West Brom supporters

In terms of the game, there was very little between the two sides, with Trai Hume’s long-range free kick somehow finding its way past Joe Wildsmith.

Aside from that, it was a cagey affair that West Brom will probably feel as though they should have come away with something.

The race for a top six finish is very tight this season.

However, after the game, as fans were dispersing from the stadium, what appears to be the youthful section of the supporters was seen jeering and egging each other on, while standing a considerable distance away from each other.

It’s fair to say those involved in the incident were more concerned with intimidating the opposing supporters, but to little effect.

West Brom need to show more fight on the pitch, not off it

West Brom never really looked like a team pushing for a return to the Premier League in their encounter with Sunderland, and that is something that will need to change ahead of the final six games of the season.

As it stands, Mowbray’s men are outside of the top six, and will now be relying on other teams dropping points while also ensuring they pick up plenty of their own.

A failure to do so would be a huge disappointment, but until it’s over, there is plenty left to play for.
