Grady Diangana wants shock Wolves transfer amid West Brom exit decision

West Brom could lose several of their key squad members if they fail to achieve promotion to the Premier League this season.

The Baggies suffered a significant blow on Saturday afternoon (5 April) as they went down 1-0 to Sunderland on home turf, falling out of the Championship play-off places into eighth.

Having not tasted top-flight football since 2021, Albion are attempting to break down that barrier but Tony Mowbray now sees his side go four without a win, and players could sense an opportunity to leave The Hawthorns in the summer if the top-tier dreams do not materialise.

Grady Diangana could explore stunning Wolves move

Diangana is approaching the end of his West Brom contract, having failed to so far agree terms with the hierarchy in the West Midlands.

But amazing developments have apparently emerged in which the Congolese international winger could move across the region to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of his deal in the summer.

According to the print edition of The Sun (6 April, pg 55), a proposed move to MLS is being put on hold as Diangana awaits interest to become concrete from both Wolves and Leeds United as a potential return to the Premier League looms.

It is understood from the report the winger – who was handed a recall to the starting XI against Sunderland by Mowbray at the weekend – is favouring staying in England as opposed to two American sides who have already confirmed their interest.

In what would be an unthinkable move – made even more bitter by the fact it would be for nothing – but Diangana is eyeing top-level football once again.

West Brom supporters would not forgive their player

Diangana, 26, has remained on the same deal he signed when he made his initial loan move at West Brom permanent back in 2020.

He has since made well over 150 appearances in the blue and white stripes and has excelled in his international career with DR Congo, but would lose all adoration from the Baggies faithful if he made the move across to Molineux.

Even a free agent switch to Elland Road would be a lot more forgiving, though Leeds themselves had another Championship weekend to forget as they fell out of the automatic promotion places.

Injuries have slowed down Diangana’s progress this season, with the Christmas period through until late January his purple patch – firing four Championship goals and two assists as his starts became more regular.

But the future uncertainty is now coming to a boil with a clearly talented operator who has become synonymous with Albion back in the Championship. A move to Wolves would burn plenty of bridges, and the man himself will be fully aware.
