West Brom fans shocked by what Corberan did hours after Mowbray lost v Sunderland
West Brom fans were left hurt when Carlos Corberan quit The Hawthorns in favour of joining La Liga outfit Valencia.
When Corberan joined Valencia, they looked likely to suffer relegation from the top-flight.
However, the former Baggies boss has steered his new club to a series of strong results, and survival has now become a probability rather than a possibility for the Spanish outfit.
Meanwhile, West Brom’s playoff hopes hit another stumbling block on Saturday as Albion lost 1-0 to Sunderland in the West Midlands.

West Brom fans react as Corberan’s Valencia beat Real Madrid
Thanks to Corberan’s increasingly impressive exploits in the dugout, Valencia earned their first away victory at Real Madrid since 2008, clinching a 2-1 win at the Bernabeu on Saturday.
One Albion fan aimed a dig at current boss Tony Mowbray on X and wrote: “What a competent coach such as Carlos Corberan can achieve.”
Another user wrote: “Wasn’t so long ago some Albion fans moaned about Corberan and wanted him out cuz he didn’t play ‘handbrake football.’ This fella was the real deal.”
West Brom desperately need to turn their Championship form around
In recent weeks, West Brom have seen their playoff credentials majorly fade away as they have won just one of their last six games in the Championship.
Opponent | Result |
Burnley (A) | 1-1 D |
Hull (H) | 1-1 D |
Norwich (A) | 1-0 L |
Sunderland (H) | 0-1 L |
The Hawthorns faithful may have been somewhat concerned when Mowbray’s men were held to a 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Hull on 15 March, but fears that Albion may not finish in the top six have been exacerbated by consecutive defeats at the hands of Norwich and Sunderland.
Mowbray’s side have now fallen out of the playoffs and could be in for another tough night on Tuesday when they go head-to-head with Bristol City, who currently occupy sixth spot courtesy of their 2-1 win over Watford on Saturday.
Under Corberan’s stewardship last term, the Baggies were good value for their fifth-place finish in the Championship.
However, the Spaniard’s mid-season exit has proven difficult for West Brom to bounce back from, and they are now likely to miss out on the playoffs.
