Clinton Morrison makes West Brom prediction after ‘Crazy’ Tim Sherwood admission

West Brom have seen their Championship playoff hopes fade away in recent weeks.

The Baggies sit eighth in the Championship but five points adrift of the playoffs after winning just one of their last six games.

Tony Mowbray’s men have now suffered three consecutive defeats in the second tier, with losses against Norwich, Sunderland, and Bristol City.

Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at City was particularly disappointing as Jayson Molumby was shown a red card before the Robins snatched a last-minute winner.

Tim Sherwood and Clinton Morrison make West Brom claim

The Baggies have not won since their 1-0 triumph over QPR on 8 March and will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host Watford on Saturday.

West Brom are on poor form

Meanwhile, Tim Sherwood told Sky Sports Football [22:24, 9 April]: “This league is crazy, and the top can beat the bottom at any stage. I don’t think you can handpick them and say they’ve got a better run-in.

“You might look at a team who’s playing at home and think, well, you’d like more home than away games.”

Clinton Morrison specifically pointed out the Baggies, saying: “Don’t rule out West Brom.

“West Brom are still in it. There’s going to be lots of twists and turns, and that’s why we love this league.”

West Brom could struggle to get back in the playoffs

Morrison is right to point out that amid an unpredictable Championship season, West Brom’s playoff credentials should not be written off.

However, Mowbray’s men are in a woeful vein of form and appear unlikely to land a top-six spot with just five games left to play in the second tier.

Watford present themselves as beatable opposition for the Baggies on Saturday, as Tom Cleverley’s side have won just one of their last four games and sit six points below the playoffs.

However, West Brom then face Coventry on 18 April, and Frank Lampard’s men will be buoyed by their last-minute win over Portsmouth, so they will fancy their chances of beating Hull on Monday.

The Sky Blues currently occupy a playoff place and have been one of the best teams in the Championship since Lampard’s appointment.

The Baggies also face tough fixtures against relegation battlers Derby, Cardiff, and Luton, so it may prove difficult to turn their form around.

Don’t rule anything out yet, though.
