Championship make Tom Fellows announcement after West Brom win

Tom Fellows was the star of the show as West Brom reignited their play-off push with a win over Watford on Saturday.

The wideman delivered both assists as Tony Mowbray’s men defeated fellow top-six hopefuls Watford 2-1 at The Hawthorns.

Karlan Grant put the Baggies ahead against the Hornets with a tidy finish, while Mikey Johnston found their second goal on the hour mark.

Watford hit back through Moussa Sissoko, but Albion went on to claim a vital win, which could help them clinch a playoff spot.

Fellows and Grant named in Championship team of the week

Before Saturday’s victory over Watford, Grant had not scored for the Baggies since their 1-1 draw with Sheffield United back in December.

Meanwhile, Fellows’ brace of assists against the Hornets were his first goal contributions since he set up Adam Armstrong’s goal in a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday on 8 February.

But both Fellows and Grant earned themselves a deserved place in the Championship team of the week, which was announced by the EFL on Tuesday.

Fellows form could hold the key for West Brom in playoff chase

Fellows is the Championship’s top assist maker, having set up his Baggies teammates on 13 occasions in the second tier this term.

But before his top-drawer performance against Watford, the 21-year-old had not managed to make a goal contribution for nine consecutive games.

His display against the Hornets could indicate that Fellows has hit a strong vein of form at exactly the right time for Mowbray’s men, who have just four games remaining to climb into the top six.

After Coventry were held to a 1-1 draw with Hull on Monday, West Brom are now three points adrift of the playoff spots heading into Good Friday’s vital clash with the Sky Blues.

If Mowbray and Co can get the better of Frank Lampard’s men on 18 April, they can leapfrog Coventry into sixth place, thanks to their superior goal difference.

To beat the Sky Blues, though, the Baggies may need Fellows to be at his creative best once again.
