West Brom playoff chances predicted by supercomputer after Coventry draw

West Brom are only three points adrift of the playoff places after Coventry were held to a 1-1 draw with Hull on Monday.

The Baggies sit seventh in the Championship after Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Watford, but Frank Lampard’s men weakened their grip on a top-six spot after dropping two points at Hull.

Before their win over Watford, Tony Mowbray’s men had suffered three consecutive defeats, but the Albion will now hope to finish the season with a bang.

Coventry, meanwhile, have earned four points in their last two games after beating Portsmouth 1-0 on 9 April, but could have been five points clear with four games to go.

West Brom’s playoff chances look slim under Coventry

Coventry had hoped to beat relegation candidates Hull on Monday but had to settle for a draw with Ruben Selles’ men.

However, Opta’s supercomputer has predicted that West Brom now have just a 27.10 per cent chance of finishing in the playoffs.

Coventry, meanwhile, now has a 65.54 per cent chance of landing a top-six spot, as per the supercomputer.

Mowbray will take motivation that the gap is only three points now, though, with 12 left to play for.

West Brom are vying to get in the top six

Lampard’s men will fancy their chances of picking up a crucial victory with home advantage.

But if the Albion emerge victorious, they will leapfrog Coventry into sixth spot courtesy of their superior goal difference, with everything on the line.

Friday’s clash between the Sky Blues and the Baggies could prove decisive in the playoff race, while Mowbray’s side face relegation candidates in their last three games.

If Mowbray and Co can get the better of Coventry, they should fancy their chances of beating Derby, Cardiff, and Luton in their last three games and clinching a top-six spot, even though the lowly trio will be determined to retain their Championship status.

But if the Baggies lose to Lampard’s side, they can wave goodbye to their playoff credentials as they would then sit six points behind the Sky Blues with just three games remaining.
