Matheus Pereira reacts as West Brom announce major contract news

Matheus Pereira is still a beloved figure at West Brom despite leaving nearly four years ago.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a successful two-year stint at The Hawthorns, notching 20 goals and 26 assists, with 17 contributions coming in the Premier League.

He has since had spells with Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia and Cruziero in his homeland of Brazil but has struggled to replicate his Albion form.

The former Baggies ace still follows the Midlands outfit and has reacted to a major announcement from his former club.

Pereira reacts as Bartley deal announced by West Brom

The Black Country club announced on 16 April that they have extended Kyle Bartley’s contract until the summer of 2026.

The Hawthorns outfit announced on Instagram that they had triggered an appearance clause in his current contract to keep him around for another season at the very least.

Former Albion star Pereira reacted by liking the post that shared the news.

West Brom have made the right move with Bartley

The veteran defender turns 34 in May but he has been a regular fixture in the backline when he is fit and Tony Mowbray clearly rates him very highly despite his advancing age.

The former Swansea man’s experience will be crucial as Mowbray’s side chase a playoff place in the last few weeks of the season after a recent run left them on the outside.

The race for the playoffs.

Bartley has featured 27 times in the Championship this season and his influence at the back will be vital, especially with a huge top-six clash against Coventry on the horizon on 18 April that could be make or break for their promotion ambitions.

The Baggies then face three sides that are in relegation danger with fixtures against Derby, Cardiff and Luton Town, so if they can end the season by winning all four, they may edge their way into the end-of-season showcase.

If Albion can somehow make it to the Premier League, they will need the experience in the backline if they are to have any chance of staying up there and if they fail, they will require his leadership to bounce back and go again next season.
