Coventry City fans baffle talkSPORT pundit after what happened in win v West Brom
West Brom fell to a damaging defeat away at Coventry City which all but ends their play-off hopes.
The Baggies travelled to face Coventry knowing they had a must-win game ahead, but it was a disastrous afternoon as they were comfortably beaten 2-0.
Coventry took the lead early on through Jack Rudoni, and cruised to a comfortable half-time lead before Matt Grimes doubled their advantage after the break.
Callum Styles was sent off in a dismal afternoon for West Brom, but while it was a fairly easy game for Coventry in the end, their fans were particularly nervy in the first half.

Coventry atmosphere ‘tense’ in victory v West Brom
Coventry headed into the game one place and three points above West Brom in the Championship, meaning a home defeat could have seen them drop out of the play-off spots.
This clearly reflected in the atmosphere among the home fans, with the fans at the Coventry Building Society Arena more tense than buzzing during the first half.
“What has surprised me, with that early goal and a full house, these Coventry fans are subdued,” pundit Matt Murray stated on talkSPORT 2 (3.18 pm, 18 April).
“I expected more of an atmosphere. It feels a bit tense, doesn’t it?”
Coventry eventually eased to the win, and their fans were jubilant at full-time, but they were clearly aware of what was at stake until the three points were confirmed against West Brom.

West Brom play-off hopes are over
The trip to Coventry was the last chance for Tony Mowbray’s side to show their promotion ambitions despite a struggle for form in recent months.
With the table as tight as it is, West Brom simply had to win to go above Coventry, and are now six points behind with three games remaining.
Although they are not mathematically out of the race, West Brom’s confidence is low, and their form compared to the teams around them means it is highly unlikely that they will be able to finish in the top six now.
West Brom would need to win out, with several other teams all losing multiple games, and as it stands, the Baggies hardly look like winning at all.
