Furlong woeful, 2/10 player even worse: West Brom player ratings v Coventry City

West Brom faced their biggest game remaining this season as they travelled to face Coventry City on Saturday knowing that they had to win.

Tony Mowbray’s side began the day in seventh place, one spot and three points behind Coventry, with the opportunity to leapfrog them in the table.

Frank Lampard’s in-form side are also battling for a play-off place, and they had the perfect start in Coventry as Jack Rudoni opened the scoring within five minutes of kick-off, before doubling their lead at the start of the second half.

Callum Styles was sent off to compound West Brom’s misery, in what was a bitterly disappointing afternoon.

West Brom News now rates the performance of each away player out of 10 in the 2-0 loss.

West Brom disappoint in Coventry defeat

Joshua Griffiths – 5

Dealt with some dangerous crosses well. Could do little about either goal.

Darnell Furlong – 3

Careless on the ball going forward. Had a part to pay in Coventry’s first two goals. Disastrous in possession.

Kyle Bartley – 5

Strong in the air throughout. Played some passes into dangerous positions.

Torbjoern Heggem – 6

Played some promising long balls forward. One of the better performers on the day as he was relatively solid at the back.

Callum Styles – 2

Received two careless yellow cards, which he could hardly complain about. Wrestled with Coventry’s Tatsuhiro Sakamoto to earn his dismissal to put his side in further jeopardy.

Isaac Price – 5

Gave away some frustrating fouls. Offered little in possession before being substituted at half time.

Alex Mowatt – 4

Sloppy in possession at times. Struggled to keep up with the pace of Coventry’s midfield. Poor display.

Tom Fellows – 5

Very little service meant he could hardly get into the game. One-dimensional in his few attacks. Quiet performance.

Karlan Grant – 5

Anonymous for long spells of the game. Physically bullied and offered no attacking threat at all.

Mikey Johnston – 6

Some frustrating moments as he dribbled straight into danger at times. Occasionally threatening but with little to show for it. One of the better performers.

Will Lankshear – 3

Had absolutely no impact on the game, completing just one pass in 45 minutes before being substituted at half time.

Substitutes

Grady Diangana – 6

Came on into difficult circumstances. Thought he had superbly created a goal for Adam Armstrong but this was disallowed for offside.

John Swift – 3

Gave away the second goal with a poor giveaway in the West Brom penalty area.

Ousmane Diakite – 6

Offered more legs than Mowatt after replacing him in the second half.

Adam Armstrong – 6

Had a goal disallowed after a very tight offside call. Came on too late.

Daryl Dike – 5

Came on too late to impact the game meaningfully.
