West Brom fans erupt at Mowbray after what he did v Coventry – ‘Disgraceful’
West Brom have given themselves a massive mountain to climb if they are to have a chance of sneaking in the play-offs in the Championship after losing at Coventry City.
The 2-0 defeat at the CBS Arena saw Tony Mowbray lose against another of his former sides (18 April), with the Baggies deservedly the losing team.
Albion are now six points adrift of the top six with just three games to go, with their final three fixtures against survival battlers Derby County, Cardiff City and Luton Town.

West Brom fans rage at half-time double change – ‘trying to get sacked’
West Brom are now as good as out of the play-off race having now lost a fourth game in five, and at the hands of a promotion rival in Coventry to boot.
Mowbray made an interesting double change at the break, withdrawing Will Lankshear and Isaac Price in place of Grady Diangana and John Swift.
As if supporters were not baffled enough at the manager’s decision to take off a striker with Albion trailing, Swift gave Coventry a goal on a plate straight after coming on as Matt Grimes doubled the hosts’ advantage.
Just three minutes later, Callum Styles found himself sent off – yet another red card for the Baggies, who are left licking their wounds with supporters taking to social media to air their views.
Albion have to win final three but barely stand a chance
West Brom can still mathematically reach the top six, but it is ridiculously unlikely now and most supporters will not even entertain the conversation. They were dreadful throughout their short trip across the West Midlands in Coventry.
What Mowbray’s men would have to do is win all of their final three, pick up a nine-point total to register a total of 69, and hope for the best. It would be miraculous.
POS | Championship table 2024-25 | PLD | PTS | GD |
5 | Bristol City | 43 | 67 | +10 |
6 | Coventry | 43 | 66 | +7 |
7 | Middlesbrough | 43 | 63 | +11 |
8 | WEST BROM | 43 | 60 | +10 |
9 | Millwall | 43 | 60 | -3 |
10 | Blackburn | 43 | 59 | +3 |
A sub-70 total is not usually enough to sneak into the play-offs, though Mowbray did in fact finish sixth himself with Sunderland with 69 points just two years ago.
It all seems redundant right now, though – against three sides fighting for their Championship lives, Baggies fans will not hold much faith judging by recent performances.
