Tony Mowbray sack: Shilen Patel update emerges after West Brom loss v Derby
Tony Mowbray is under immense pressure at West Brom after the 3-1 defeat against Derby County on Easter Monday.
West Brom fell further away from the Championship playoff spots after succumbing to a demoralising defeat against Derby at The Hawthorns on 21 April.
Albion are now four places and six points behind a playoff spot, having lost five of their last six games.
The abysmal run of form has left the Baggies faithful frustrated with Mowbray, who has managed just five wins in 17 games since returning to the West Midlands.
DOOD drops Mowbray sack update after Derby defeat
A record of just one win and eight games has jeopardised West Brom’s promotion hopes, and there have been shouts for Mowbray to be sacked.
Although there are only two more matches left to play, some believe it is still not too late to pull the plug on the 61-year-old manager.
Team | Matches | Wins | Draws | Losses | Goal Difference | Points | Form |
6. Coventry (Last playoff spot) | 44 | 19 | 9 | 16 | 5 | 66 | LWDWL |
10. West Brom | 44 | 14 | 18 | 12 | 8 | 60 | LLWLL |
However, DOOD has insisted that Mowbray will remain in charge of Albion until the end of the season, although that is not expected to be the case for next term.
The West Brom insider also expects a ‘very interesting’ meeting between Mowbray and Shilen Patel once the season draws to a close.
“End of season review meeting with Tony [Mowbray] and Patel will be very interesting”, Dood wrote on X (21 April).
“I don’t expect him to be sacked until the end of the season. Eyebrows have been raised. I don’t expect Mowbray to be our manager next season.”

West Brom to miss out on Premier League promotion
While West Brom could still make the playoffs, they only stand an outside chance.
The Albion faithful will be disappointed with the way in which the team have fallen behind in the promotion race, as they were in a strong position to participate in the playoffs.
It will be a huge surprise if Patel decides to continue with Mowbray for next season on the back of the disappointing results in recent weeks.
Mowbray was a sensible appointment after Carlos Coberan’s exit in December, but he does not look the right man to lead the West Midlands outfit forward.
