West Brom ‘to get five new transfers’ after shock Tony Mowbray sack

Tony Mowbray has been sacked at West Brom after losing to Derby County on Monday, with the upcoming transfer now crucial for Shilen Patel.

The Hawthorns hosted John Eustace’s team on 21 April, with the hosts losing 3-1 after goals from Ebou Adams, Jerry Yates and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

Mowbray was already under pressure at the Albion in recent weeks after some disappointing results and has now been relieved of his duties.

While questions have been raised about the English manager’s future, it was arguably shocking to see a decision made so quickly, and now a massive overhaul could potentially follow in the coming months.

Patel to sanction five new quality transfers at West Brom

Pat Murphy believes the Baggies need to sign at least five first-team players next summer.

The ex-BBC journalist would definitely keep Callum Styles, Torbjorn Heggem, Ousmane Diakite, Tom Fellows, Isaac Price, Jayson Molumby and Kyle Bartley, while Daryl Dike and Josh Maja should also be kept if fit.

Mowbray’s record at the Baggies this season.

With significant changes wanted, Murphy feels personality, leadership, fresh legs and pace will all be vital for the recruitment team.

The journalist wrote on X (21 April): “I’d keep Styles, Heggem, Diakite, Fellows, Price, Molumby, Bartley (for his character and grit), and if fit, Dike & Maja. After that, half a starting eleven at least is needed. Personality, leadership, fresh legs, and pace all vital for the recruitment team.”

Mowbray sack inevitable at The Hawthorns

The Hawthorns faithful were left surprised as Mowbray’s exit was announced after Derby beat the Baggies.

Patel didn’t wait long to make a decision on the former Birmingham City head coach as the Albion’s hopes of making the play-offs have diminished after recent results.

With five losses in the last six games, maybe the Englisman’s sacking should’ve been expected.

It looked like Mowbray was hanging on at West Brom in recent weeks, and it now remains to be seen who the next permanent manager will be.

Carlos Corberan had left the West Midlands outfit in a decent position before joining Valencia, but the former Birmingham City boss was unable to make progress on that.

While the English manager’s initial impact at The Hawthorns was evident, he was unable to bring the best out of the squad.

Bilkul Football have done an impressive job at the Black Country club since completing their takeover, and they’ll need to bounce back from this setback.
