West Brom new manager: Ex-Wolves boss already favourite to replace Tony Mowbray
West Brom supporters are raging at the state of their side, who have meekly faded from the Championship playoff picture.
Defeat to Derby County at The Hawthorns on Easter Monday (21 April) spelt the end of the line for the second spell in charge of Tony Mowbray, who was sacked.
West Brom have fallen to 10th in the Championship, a season-low position, with their remaining two fixtures now obsolete and another campaign in the second tier looming for which to plan.
We have today parted company with Head Coach Tony Mowbray.

Assistant Head Coach Mark Venus has also departed.
The club would like to place on record its thanks to Tony and Mark for their efforts – but has made the decision to part company following a series of poor results.
Mowbray sacked as ex-Wolves boss favourite to replace him
Mowbray is one of the most respected and adored figures in the English game, and to see his latest stint at The Hawthorns end the way it has done is difficult to endure.
West Brom will now be taken over by James Morrison, Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill in the interim, which is likely to cover the final two fixtures against Cardiff City and Luton Town.
Cardiff and Luton, like Derby, will be tough opponents despite their lowly league position, as they desperately scrap to avoid relegation to League One.
The bookmakers’ odds make for interesting reading with regards to Mowbray’s replacement for the Albion, with former Wolves manager Gary O’Neil leading the way at 3/1 with BetVictor.
Steve Cooper (4/1), Liam Rosenior (5/1) and Sean Dyche (6/1) are just in behind, with Morrison priced at 10/1 to be given the head coach role permanently.

West Brom have merely pride to play for
West Brom fans are frustrated beyond belief at how the end of this season has panned out; it’s just like the wires were crossed, that nothing appeared to align.
The Baggies put in a sprinkling of decent performances along the way, but dropped far too many points and didn’t score nearly enough goals for the attacking talent they have at their disposal.
With nothing realistic left to play for this season, it will be interesting to see how the final two games pan out against sides with their Championship lives on the line.
West Brom – next permanent manager odds | Odds |
Gary O’Neil | 3/1 |
Steve Cooper | 4/1 |
Liam Rosenior | 5/1 |
Sean Dyche | 6/1 |
James Morrison | 10/1 |
O’Neil would be an intriguing appointment if he did come in to replace Mowbray, given his recent Wolves connections. Supporters may be doubtful, but a positive start would soon be likely to evaporate any ill feeling.
Planning for next season starts now – and hopefully, from a Baggies perspective, the next head coach can last the full season and provide an exciting promotion challenge.
