West Brom new manager: Wayne Rooney odds emerge after sack bombshell
Wayne Rooney looks to have entered the running to take over from Tony Mowbray as West Brom manager.
The Baggies pulled the sack trigger on the 61-year-old on Monday evening (21 April) after a fifth defeat in the last six Championship outings.
Losing 3-1 to a relegation-threatened Derby County side was the last straw for the Hawthorns hierarchy, who had seen enough.
Now, attentions turn to finding a new head coach ahead of the summer transfer window as Rooney looks to have entered the running.

Rooney could take over at West Brom
It is fair to say that it has been a disastrous run for Albion, which has seen their campaign fall away at the most important point.
After looking like a dead cert for the playoff spots, the loss of Carlos Corberan has had a devastating impact on the side’s performances in B71.
As a result, it is little surprise that Mowbray has been shown the door after failing to get the best out of the squad available to him in his brief spell in charge.
With that in mind, the next appointment with Shilen Patel is going to be massive and needs to be right when the time comes.
There are various high-profile names being linked with the vacant role, with Rooney arguably the biggest, coming in at 16/1 according to Gambling.com (22 April).
This places him at the same odds as Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones and narrowly behind the likes of Luke Williams and Rob Edwards.

Rooney represents a risk at West Brom
There are a lot of questions to be asked of the former England captain who has seriously failed in his last two jobs as a head coach.
In his spells with Birmingham City and Plymouth Argyle, there was little to no positivity to speak of before eventually facing the sack.
Stat | Birmingham City | Plymouth Argyle |
Games | 15 | 25 |
Points per game | 0.7 | 0.8 |
Wins | 2 (13%) | 5 (20%) |
Draws | 4 | 6 |
Defeats | 9 | 14 |
As a result, serious questions will be asked of the 39-year-old ahead of a potential move to The Hawthorns ahead of the new campaign.
There is every chance that the ex-Derby boss could get the best out of players like Isaac Price and Josh Maja going forward, but that may not be worth the risk of finding out.
