‘QPR concerned’ as new Marti Cifuentes and West Brom update drops
West Brom’s search for a new manager could see them look in the direction of fellow Championship side QPR.
Four days on from Tony Mowbray’s somewhat unexpected sacking at The Hawthorns, a number of names have already been linked with the job.
Some names will excite supporters more than others, with former Everton boss Sean Dyche among those to have been touted as a possible candidate.

Cifuentes could be on way out of QPR
All that is known for now is that James Morrison will oversee matters at Albion for this weekend’s trip to Cardiff City.
But it may well be that West Brom do not have to wait much longer for a new permanent manager, with Marti Cifuentes the latest to be named as a possible option.
According to The Mirror (23 April), there is growing concern at QPR that highly rated boss Cifuentes could be heading for the exit due to a disagreement with the board.
Club | Period |
Rubi | 2013-14 |
Sant Andreu | 2014 |
Hospitalet | 2015-16 |
Sandefjord | 2018-2020 |
AaB | 2021-2022 |
Hammarby | 2022-2023 |
QPR | 2023- |
The report adds that QPR fear Cifuentes could be tempted by another club in the same league – namely West Brom or fellow managerless side Norwich City.
Cifuentes is not said to currently be a Albion’s shortlist, but that is something that could change if he makes it clear he wants out of Loftus Road.

Who is QPR boss Cifuentes?
Cifuentes was also linked with the Albion job around the time that Carlos Corberan quit The Hawthorns.
It is perhaps no coincidence as there are similarities between the two, with both being Spanish and neither enjoying particularly fruitful playing careers.
Cifuentes made a name for himself in his homeland before succeeding at Swedish side Hammarby and then taking on the QPR job in 2023.
The Spaniard signed a new long-term deal with QPR last September, so prising him away will not be easy even if he does indicate he wants to depart.
On the basis of his work at Loftus Road, working with a squad that does not possess a huge amount of quality, he looks like a good fit for West Brom on the face of it.
