West Brom top of table for embarrassing stat that got Mowbray sacked
West Brom might not be topping the Championship, but they are top of a rather embarrassing table instead.
The Baggies opted to sack Tony Mowbray just before the end of the season, with the club’s aim for playoff football looking unlikely to be realised.
West Brom currently sit 10th in the league table with just two games to go, being six points adrift of the top six.
While they can mathematically still achieve playoff football, it would take a lot of results going in their favour, while the squad themselves would have to pick up consecutive wins, which has proven hard to come by in recent times.
The Baggies have managed one win in their previous six games, with their form at the business end of the season proving to be costly.

West Brom are top of an unwanted table
West Brom have particularly struggled away from home this season, and that is summed up by the fact they have the longest current run without a win on the road of any team in the top four tiers of English football.
West Brom have now gone 14 games without picking up three points, which is a worrying statistic as they prepare for a trip to play Cardiff City on Saturday (26 April).
Position | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | Points |
10 | 44 | 14 | 18 | 12 | 60 |
The closest team to the Baggies is Gillingham, who have gone 13 games without a win, while Morecambe have managed 10, and Bristol Rovers and Harrogate Town are each on nine.
It’s a disastrous record for West Brom, particularly for a team that had Premier League aspirations at the start of the campaign, and it is one of the main reasons why Mowbray was let go.

West Brom now have to focus on next season
While the Baggies might still have two games to go this season, the focus for the Midlands club has already turned toward next season.
West Brom will aim to be involved in the mix toward the top of the table once again, but more consistent results away from home will be imperative if they want to achieve that.
The decision on who the next permanent manager will be is also going to be crucial, as the Baggies need some stability moving forward.
