West Brom backed to hire Ryan Mason as Sky Sports host shares what he’s heard
West Brom have been linked in recent days with a move for Ryan Mason to become the new manager at The Hawthorns.
Mason, first-team coach at Tottenham Hotspur, is now the 2/1 favourite with BetVictor to succeed Tony Mowbray, who was sacked after the home defeat by Derby County last week.
Albion’s play-off bid petered out into an unsuccessful run-in, and now their final fixture of the Championship season against survival-chasing Luton Town has become obsolete for the home fans (3 May).

Mason backed for West Brom job by former EFL star
Mason has not yet taken on his first full-time managerial role, having stepped in as interim for Tottenham on a number of occasions.
The former Spurs, Hull City and England midfielder retired early from his playing days on medical grounds and has since built a steady coaching career, held in high esteem by many.
Former EFL midfielder and Sky Sports host David Prutton backed the potential appointment of Mason at The Hawthorns, and insisted the 33-year-old could succeed under Shilen Patel.
“Ryan Mason’s obviously caretakered at Spurs a few times, but given the uncertainty there with Postecoglou’s position, I can see why he’d want to strike out on his own,” Prutton told Football League World (26 April).
“Still young, only 33, I’ve heard very good things about him, good reputation, good way with the players, very much the modern day manager because there’s not much gap between himself and the actual playing staff.
“Big job at West Brom, given the players that are potentially moving on like Diangana and Swift, although that might change with a new manager, you never know. But at some stage, he’d like to step out on his own, and West Brom with a young, hungry manager, with an ownership group that wants to get itself back up and running could be a pretty decent partnership.”

Baggies have hot competition for Hawthorns job
Despite West Brom eliminating their own chances of promotion to the Premier League this season, the top job at The Hawthorns remains highly sought-after.
Patel and the board are ambitious and will be looking to invest into the squad this summer, and were unafraid to make the bold but necessary call to dispense with Mowbray.
Alongside Mason, BetVictor’s market on the West Brom job also lists former Wolves manager Gary O’Neil (5/1), Steve Cooper (6/1), and at 8/1 both Sean Dyche and Liam Rosenior.

The Baggies board could do their utmost to ensure a proven promotion winner will enter the building, and they will in turn be supplied with a squad ready to respond efficiently to the current disappointment.
Mason would be a risk, but boasts an arguably higher management ceiling and great experience around established managers at Spurs.
Albion close out the season against Luton having already had their own say on the relegation battle, sending Cardiff City down with a goalless draw on Saturday (26 April).
